The new Bettendorf Baseball Club debuts Sunday, Oct. 11 with a tryout for a 12-under team to play weekend travel tournaments in 2021.

The tryout is free and open to all participants from 3-5 p.m. at the Crow Creek Park 4-plex. Please confirm your attendance at tappasteve@gmail.com.

Attendees should wear baseball clothes (hat, jersey/baseball sleeves, baseball pants and shoes). Tryout participants also should bring their own gloves, bats and accessories. If batting helmets or catching gear is needed, please include that information with your RSVP.

The BBC is a partnership between Bettendorf-Pleasant Valley Youth Baseball and the Bettendorf High School baseball program for students enrolled in Bettendorf Community Schools. The BBC program is designed as a direct feeder to the BHS program, with the goal to develop well-rounded, multi-positional baseball players for the high school level.

BBC players, coaches and teams have the benefit of working with BHS coaches and players in preparing for weekend tournaments and regular-season play in the BPV.

BBC Board Members, including BHS head coach Blake Hanna and his top assistants Michael Budka (sophomores) and Everett Hamner (freshman), will run the tryout with the help of BHS players.

The BBC Board will determine the roster based on tryout assessments before interviewing potential 12-U team coaches from a pool of volunteer candidates.

The BBC plans to offer teams at every level, from ages 8-14, starting with tryouts in the summer of 2021.

However, because of overwhelming interest at the 12-U level, the team determined from Oct. 11’s tryout will be the first offered by the BBC.

The BPV continues to offer weekend tournament teams for players from all schools. For more information, contact Steve Tappa at tappasteve@gmail.com.
